Stand Up mobilizations in Asia |

India:
-Stand Up mobilizations will take place
in the following states: Andra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya
Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharastra, and Uttar Pradesh. About 1. 5 million people
are expected to participate in the mobilizations.
-Some 90,000 people will march
to Parliament in Delhi to demand resources for the most vulnerable and socially
excluded groups (organized by NACDOR and Amnesty International). Thousands of women will demand political representation for
women in India.
-Mobilizations of Notified Tribes/Denotified Tribes will take
place in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and New Delhi.
-Members of the Art of Living
Foundation, one of the largest spiritual movements in the world and based in
India, will mobilize to plant more than 100 million trees around the globe.
Indonesia:
-Indonesia's CSO Network will use "Stand
Up" to demand better access to local health services for the poor and
people of marginalized areas, better reproductive healthcare, and equal
education and employment opportunities.
-Stand Up events will take place in East Kalimantan, East Java, North Sumatra, Bogor,
West Java, Jakarta, NTT, NTB, and South East Sulawesi.
-Muslims will Stand Against Poverty at more than 400 mosques to demand
that the government commit to more pro-poor policies.
Japan:
-The Africa Japan
Forum will hold a garbage clean up march that will be joined by Africans living in Japan
and ambassadors of African countries.
-Organizations that will hold their own
Stand Up events include World Vision, Plan Japan, Peace Boat, People Tree,
MOFA, JICA, Girls Scout, and NEC Corporation. More than 20 major universitiesØ
are will also organize Stand Up events.
-A film on Stand Up will be screened at
the big vision screen near the Shibuya Station.
-A youth talk event and photo op will be
held by YDP Japan.
-Emails will be sent to15,000Ø people at Mixi, the
biggest Social network service in Japan.
-A mobile site (www.standup2015.jp/m/
) and blog
site for the youth (http://sutayouth.blog7.fc2.com/)
will be launched.
South
Korea:
-From
10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a Whiteband Event will take place on the main road of Duksoo
Palace (near the Seoul City Hall). Korean NGOs will issue a statement on global
poverty urging the Korean government to increase aid. Whitebands will be
distributed and there will be performances. Booths depicting poverty will be
set up along the main road of Duksoo.
-From Oct. 17-19, there will be a White
Banner Campaign. Participating organizations will hang a large white banner
outside their office buildings. Participating organizations include KOICA (Korea
International Cooperation Agency), MOFAT (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Trade), Myeongdoong Catholic Cathedral, Girl Scouts, and the district offices
of Seoul.
-There will be a sign-up campaign for the eradication of global
poverty at on Korea’s number one website “Naver” (www.naver.com ).
Nepal:
-Nepal's Prime
Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) will call on citizens of Nepal to Stand
Up and Take Action against poverty and issue a full commitment of Nepal's
government to take the actions towards eradicating poverty in New Nepal.
-Mobilizations will take place in Ilam District, Sunsary and Saptari districts.
Millions will join the mobilizations, the majority will be people who have been
devastated by flooding, as well as disadvantaged minority groups and workers.
-The Federation of Community Forest Users-Nepal (FECOFUN-Nepal) will organize a plantation
program in the community forest areas of the central region. FECOFUN is a
membership organisation of 8.4 million users of community forests.
-Public
hearings will be held in Kailali and Kancanpur districts.
-There will be a
roundtable with the women members of the Constituent Assembly (CA) in Kathmandu
to discuss the role of CA members in the eradication of poverty and
guaranteeing the rights of women in the new constitutions. More than 50
Constituent Assembly members will participate in the roundtable.
Pakistan:
-There will be a rally
in Multan organized by AwazCDS-Pakistan and its partners. There will be street performances depicting
poverty and a rally at B.Z. University.
-The Peoples’ Awareness and Rights
Committees (PARCs) Network will hold Stand Up events in front of the Tehsil
Council Halls.
-Stand up rallies will be organized in other districts by
Insan Foundation, Anjuman Asiai Awam, Anjuman Mazarin Punjab, LCAP, Sarsabz
Foundation, etc.
-Organizations of Balochistan Coordination Council led by SEHAR
Organization will organize Stand Up events in Quetta, Gawadr, and Loralai.
-The Fisher Folk Forum will join with SEHAR in holding Stand Up events in the districts of Gawader and
Quetta.
-The SindhNet and Bhitshah Coordination Councils will organize Stand Up events in
Karachi, Hyderabad and Nawab Shah.
-AwazCDS-Pakistan’s partner organizations
will organize Stand Up events in the Sukkur, Jaecobabad and Mir Pur Khas districts of
Sindh.
-The Serhad Coordination Council, along with EPS and Sawabi Development
Organization, will hold Stand Up events in Peshawar, Sawabi, Abbotabad, and
Mansehra.
Bangladesh:
-About 1.5 million people are expected to join the mobilisations from October 17 to 19.
-The mobilisations on October 17 include a
grand rally in Dhaka, a huge farmers rally, women's rallies demanding an end to hunger, a Stand Up Cycle Rally in Jhinaidah and Madaripur, a Friendly Football
Match in Panchagar and Mymensigh, and a Human Chain of 50,000 students in Norshindi.
- On October 18 -19, there will be a kite flying event, a Stand Up school assemblies all over Bangladesh, including in Faridpur (Oct. 18) and in Biddya Pith High School, Mirpur (Oct. 19), a Friendly Football Match in Norshindi (Oct.19).
Singapore:
-ONE (Singapore) will
launch at the Forbidden City the Countdown Clock website (www.standup.sg/clock), an online
timepiece counting down the months, days, hours, minutes and seconds left to
the Millennium Development Goal’s 2015 deadline. The clock uses photos of
people holding numbers. Photos of Singapore celebrities Andrea De Cruz, Sheik
Haikel, Nadya Hutagalung, Hossan Leong, Liu Ling Ling, Vernetta Lopez, Claressa
Monteiro, Rod Monteiro, Mrs. UN Singapore Alicia Ng, film director Royston Tan,
Angel Teo, Utt, and sports heroes Desmond Koh and James Wong are among those in
the clock.
-Groups that will participate in the Stand Up event include Datacraft Asia’s 13 offices, Singapore
Airlines’ 5Cs (Cabin Crew Club for Community Care), TWC2, the Thomson Hill
community, the martial arts group Capoeira Zambiacongo, and schools like Anglo
Chinese Junior College, Dunman High School, Raffles Girls School, Raffles
Junior College, and Siglap Secondary School and Alumni.
-Bands including Vertical Rush and Jack and Rai
will play at Youth Park on October 18 to express their demands to end world
poverty.
Philippines:
-The Kabataan Kontra Kahirapan (Youth against Poverty) will hold a photo exhibit and signature campaign from Oct 16-17 in Ramon Magsaysay Cubao High School.
-The National Anti-Poverty
Commission and other civil society organizations are expected to mobilize more than 10
million people at Stand Up events that include a National People’s Day on October 18, which
will offer medical services and a job fair.
- GCAP Philippines will hold a mobilization in front of the Department of Agriculture on the morning of October 17 with fisher folk organizations to protest the ratification of the controversial Japan Philippines trade agreement.
-There will be a GCAP Philippines sponsored “Stand Up and Take
Action” Rap Contest for community youth groups in Metro Manila on October 17
and a bike run on October 19.
Thailand:
-At least 180,000 people living below the national
poverty line are expected to participate in poverty reduction clinics organized
by the Ministry of Interior, which will encourage domestic and individual
savings, health promotion, and empowerment of the poor.
China:
-There will be a Poverty and Migration Forum
hosted in Beijing by GCAP China and will include large numbers of people
standing up.
