GCAP is proud to be part of the largest global alliance calling for
a bold climate action in Copenhagen this December
The Global Campaign for Climate Action (GCCA), a coalition of some of the largest international climate groups, will be officially launching the “tcktcktck” campaign in Bangkok, Thailand on August 29.
The “tck tck tck” Campaign aims to organize mass public support for a successful outcome at the United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 15) in Copenhagen in December. National and global organizations, faith groups, unions, environmental and humanitarian organizations, civic leaders, and individuals from around the world are united under this campaign in calling for a bold climate deal in Copenhagen.
Bangkok will be a center of climate action in the months ahead. The UN will host this September one of the key inter-sessional meetings in the lead up to the Copenhagen meetings in December.
GCCA will mobilise for the October 5 Bangkok Day of Action on Climate Change and is undertaking a regional climate hearing on October 6.
GCAP SENCA has been linking up and coordinating with GCCA Asia secretariat based in Bangkok. It is working with GCCA in collating stories and write-ups on "100 reasons why Asia needs a good climate deal". These stories hope to highlight the impacts of climate change on women and children, indigenous groups, communities, etc. Stories of how communities and peoples are adapting and acting on climate change issues are also important. These will be presented to negotiators and governments at the UN FCCC Bangkok Inter-sessional meeting on September 28 to October 8 and at the COP 15 in Copenhagen. We are also linking this effort with the Stand Up Take Action (SUTA) campaign of GCAP. Climate justice is one of the themes of the 2009 SUTA,” said Chona Ramos, GCAP Southeast North and Central Asia Coordinator.
350.org will hold an Asian Youth Climate Workshop in Bangkok on October 2 to 5. “The goal of the workshop is to train and strengthen the Asian youth climate movement so that it can be a powerful resource, ally, and leader for all of our campaigns and organizations. We're looking to bring at least 40 East Asian youth to Bangkok from outside Thailand,” said Jamie Henn of 350.org.
350.org just launched a new set of online tools that make it easy for people to register events for the October 24 Day of Action. Its Mandarin site is about to launch also.
